OCTOBER
2017
Theme: Inherited Problems And The Way Out, 2Kings
5:25-27
Week 1: Oct. 4
Topic: The Meaning of
Inheritance
Moderator: Mrs. C.S. Akingbade
Praise Worship Leader: Mrs. C.O. Afolabi
a.
To
inherit is to be a heir, a successor
b.
To
be a carrier of certain biological or character traits.
i.
Certain
diseases tend to be traceable to particular families. Such disease may be
generational. Example, cancer
ii.
Some
negative behavoral traits may also be peculiar to certain families, Gen.
12:11-12; Gen. 20:1-18, Gen. 26:6-11, Gen. 27:22-23
c. Spiritually, the environment an
individual, family or group lives or operates in may lead to attachment or
commitment to the religious practices prevalent in that location. For
Christians this may turn out to be a “snare”, Ex. 23:20-24, 32-33
d. So
in one way or another everyone carries along one ancestral problem or the other
in their genes. For example King
Solomon’s love for women may be an inherited trait from Kind David his father,
I Kings 11:1-3
Week 2: Oct. 11
Topic: Inherited Ungodly Covenants
Moderator: Mrs. Remi Keyede
Praise Worship Leader: Mrs. Titilola Awe
1. The worship of idols is still prevalent
in Africa and Asia even today. The adherents of these false gods are in
covenant with the devil who is their source and promoter. As it is today so was
it in ancient Israel, I Kings 16:30-33
2. Those who visit shrines seeking high
positions, power or wealth, even when they claim to be Christian are committing
themselves and future generations to satan and his demons. At the appropriate
time God will judge them, Amos 2:4-8, Isaiah 28:14-18.
Week 3: Oct.
18
Topic: Inherited Demons
Moderator: Professor Bayo Odebiyi
Praise Worship Leader: Mrs.
C.S. Akingbade
1. Demonic possession may be the manifestation
of an inherited curse.
·
The
case of the Madman of Gadara is a special one Mark 5:1-20. It is not clear
whether his problem arose from inherited sin or ungodly covenant. The devil
simply took possession of him, body, soul and spirit. We don’t know why.
·
But
the man by the Pool of Bethesda was in satanic bondage for 38 years on account
of unrepented sin, John 5:1-14.
2. Children of God who live under inherited curses
no longer enjoy divine protection. They
are handed over to satan who messes up their lives ISam. 2:27-36, 2 Kings
5:25-27
3. In each of these cases demonic possession
may be part of the bloodline of future generations unless God intervenes.
