1.         The meaning of promise.  A promise is a commitment to do or not to do one thing or another.  Sometimes it is merely verbal but, as it pertains to God, the commitment is from the heart

2.         God makes promises for the following reasons:

(a)       to express His profound love and care for His flock, Ex. 3:7-10

(b)       To keep the devil in its place, I John 3:8

(c)       To encourage obedience and service, Ex. 23:25-27; Isaiah 1:18
