\\r\\n\\r\\n

In\\r\\neffect our visit, on January 22nd 2019, was part of our wider\\r\\ncampaign for Christ in Ibadan city communities, where there is a multiplicity\\r\\nof faiths.

\\r\\n\\r\\n

\\r\\n\\r\\n

The\\r\\nmission started at about 4pm with a procession by postulants, members, of the\\r\\nchapel congregation and the clergy, led by the Dean, Very Revd Dr. W.A.O.\\r\\nEgbetakin. Every postulant carried a plastic chair, each of them in their blue\\r\\nministerial robe, singing choruses, shared by everyone else, even as the\\r\\nburning afternoon sun took its toll. The older members of the congregation\\r\\njoined the train, in the chapel bus, while those whose limbs could still carry\\r\\nthem firmly to the venue, made the trip by foot.

\\r\\n\\r\\n

\\r\\n\\r\\n

On\\r\\narrival at the location, the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Alafia, auditorium,\\r\\nborrowed for the occasion, was practically empty, except for the church pastor\\r\\nMr. Akinlade and his wife, who have been our hosts for the past 3 years.  Until the church authorities acquired the\\r\\nland it had served as the venue of our regular open-air Samonda outreaches,\\r\\nsince 2010,when the Baale of Samonda, Chief Sangodipe became a member of our\\r\\nchapel.

\\r\\n\\r\\n

\\r\\n\\r\\n

To\\r\\nannounce our arrival the students in our mission train went round the\\r\\nneigbourhood in pairs, singing christian songs, drawing attention to our\\r\\npresence, to confirm the information already sent round by the Baale.

\\r\\n\\r\\n

\\r\\n\\r\\n

Half\\r\\nan hour after the church auditorium was full to capacity the Postulants had to\\r\\nmove out of the auditorium to give room for the inflow of the Samonda people.\\r\\nThe atmosphere became electic, as a young seminarian with a deep and vibrating\\r\\nvocal cord, took over the microphone, singing songs of praise, of the mission\\r\\nof Christ the Saviour, His love for mankind and His compassion for the sick and\\r\\nthe lost. The congregation responded to the rhythm and the message such that,\\r\\nfor upwards of 20minutes, everyone was on his or her feet, young and old,\\r\\ndancing and clapping.

\\r\\n\\r\\n

\\r\\n\\r\\n

Then\\r\\nit was time for the sermon titled “The God of Covenant”, delivered by Very Revd\\r\\nFelix Ogunbisi.  He told the congregation\\r\\nthat God had covenants with the entire human race and with several notable\\r\\nindividuals in ancient Israel. But the last and most significant covenant was\\r\\nthe one established with the blood of Christ, Hebrew 8:12-13.

\\r\\n\\r\\n

\\r\\n\\r\\n

\\r\\n\\r\\n

\\r\\n\\r\\n

Under\\r\\nevery covenant God plays His own part because He is ever faithful, I Cor. 1:9.\\r\\nIt is man who does not play his own part. God is the great provider even for\\r\\nthose who are undeserving, Matt. 5:45. You are numbered among the living, not\\r\\nbecause you are good, faithful or loyal to Him but because He is loving and\\r\\ncaring. You must reciprocate. Every sinner must return to Him in penitence.\\r\\nThis is a new year. You and I must be determined to turn over a new leaf.  Do not take the Grace of God in vain.

\\r\\n\\r\\n

\\r\\n\\r\\n

Do\\r\\nnot forsake the assembly of God’s children. Which means that, in addition to\\r\\nSunday church services every child of God must participate in bible study,\\r\\nprayer meetings, revivals and crusades. If you move close to God He will also\\r\\nmove close to you.  Ezekiel 34 verse 25\\r\\nmakes it clear that covenant with His children offers peace, protection against\\r\\nsatanic designs and other blessings that you and I desire.

\\r\\n\\r\\n

\\r\\n\\r\\n

After\\r\\nthe sermon there were prayers against sickness and diseases, debts arising from\\r\\nthe current economic decline, especially mass unemployment, poverty and hunger.

\\r\\n\\r\\n

\\r\\n\\r\\n

Thereafter\\r\\nmembers of the Mission Team distributed foodstuff for adults and soft drinks, biscuits\\r\\nand other edibles for all the 220 members of the Samonda community in\\r\\nattendance.
