FELLOWSHIP
MONTHLY OUTLINE
AUGUST 2019
Theme:
The Grace To Pray And Fast, Matt. 6:7, 16 & 17
Week
1:
August 7
Topic: Why Believers Must Pray
Moderator: Mrs. Titilola Awe
Praise
Worship Leader: Mrs.
C.S. Akingbade
1. Man cannot stand on his own. He is weak.
His sufficiency is in God in whom He must draw strength, Gen. 17:1, 2Cor. 3:5
2. Our adversary, the devil, is always on
the prowl, seeking to bring down children of God. To confront and defeat him,
you need Grace which is the gift of God, I Peter 5:8-9, James 4:7, Eph. 2:8
3. Even when there is no manifest appearance
of evil you must still pray, and fervently too, to ensure that those challenges
that are “common to man” do not bring you down, I Cor. 10:13. Which is why
Jesus advises us “to pray and not to faint,” Lk. 18:1
Week
2: August 14
Topic: Is Fasting A Mere Addition To Prayer?
Moderator: Professor Adenike Abiose
Praise
Worship Leader: Mrs. A.K. Shyllon
1. Fasting is actually a component of prayer
although it is distinctly so. Fasting without prayer is mere ceremony. It may not achieve the intended result, Matt.
6:16.
2. When you add fasting to prayer the
desired results may be achieved speedily, Matt. 17:14-21.
3. In fasting and prayer faith is the key
component. It does not matter for how long you pray or fast you may not attract
divine attention and compassion if you have no faith, Mark 11:23-24, John 14:12
Week 3: August 21
Topic: Fasting: A Brief Analysis of The Jesus
Wilderness
Experience, Matt. 4:1-11, Lk. 4:1-13
Moderator: Mr.
Biodun Keyede
Praise Worship
Leader:
Mrs. Joke Adebowale
1. Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit to the
wilderness where He fasted for 24 hours a day for 40 days, Matt. 4:1-2, Luke 4:1-2
2. He was tested by satan whose intention
was to abort His ministry of deliverance and salvation, Lk. 4:18-19 and thus
render ancient prophesies unattainable, Isaiah 9:6-7, Isaiah 53:3-12, Micah
5:2; Zech. 9:9
3. The issues raised by satan, in the conversation
between him and Jesus, show quite clearly that he was clever but devious. Jesus
outmatched him and he, satan, fled in shame, Lk. 4:13, Matt. 4:11
