Topic:                              Can Man Understand God? How?

1.       One way by which human beings can understand God is by studying and meditating on the Word of God as contained in the bible, Phil. 3:10

2.       By divine revelation. God can reveal Himself to you directly, Gen. 12:1-3, Ex. 3:1-6, Acts 9:1-7

3.       Through His created works all around you, Isaiah 42:5

Week 2:                           October 9

Topic:                             The Psalms, God And Creation

1.       There are Psalms which celebrate the universe and God who designed it in all its beauty and grandeur. It is a work of perfection.  Ps. 104:1-20, Ps. 45:1-8

2.       Others concentrated on the ancient history of Israel, Ps. 105:7-15, 17-38

1.       Many Psalms forsee the coming of Jesus the Messiah to deliver man from satanic oppression and return man to God

a.       Psalms on Christ the Redeemer, His persecution and suffering Ps. 22:1-8, 16-21

b.       Christ as king, the opposition to his mission and his eventual triumph, Ps 2

c.       Christ As Priest, Ps. 110:4, Heb. 5:10, Ps. 2:7

d.       As the Good Shepherd, Ps. 23, confirmed in John 10:11, 14-18

Week 4:                             October 23

Theme:                              Ps. 51 – The Psalm of Repentance

1.       The background to this Psalm is David’s great sin and the severe punishment attendant to it, 2Sam.11:1-17, 2Sam. 12:7-12

2.       David passionately confessed his sin, asked for forgiveness and restoration Ps. 51:1-17

3.       God forgives sinners who sincerely repent including David. Rev. 22:16, Luke 23:39-43
